The town of Saratoga Springs has considerable historical charm,
with shopping, art galleries, museums, state parks, spas, lakes
and hiking within a few kilometers of town or in the town center.
Since the meeting will be held during the 3rd week in September
in 2008, from Sunday through Thursday, we are expecting the weather
to be generally sunny and warm (ca. 20-24 C) during the day,
with low humidity.
We are planning an optional half day of field trips with expeditions
to Lake George and the Adirondack Mountains to observe plant,
wildlife and bird ecology, as well as a tour of the Adirondack
preserve and study of invasive species establishment in the protected
parklands. One can observe native forest species as well as lakes
and streams which support excellent fishing as well as invasive
non-native species. This area is a very popular vacation destination
in the summer and fall and offers kayaking, fishing, camping,
hiking, and boating as well as golfing. Reasonable off season
hotel rates are available for those wanting to stay on and vacation
in the area, and the weather is generally very pleasant at this
time of year.
